Last September 17-19, PinoyMedia Center successfully co-sponsored INDIEpendensya Film Festival: Asserting the Nation’s Real Independence. The three-day film festival, held at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, was attended by an audiences numbering by the hundreds. The festival featured acclaimed films from here abroad, fora, and screening and awarding of original Public Service Advertisements by student and independent filmmakers.

The winners of the student competition are as follows:

1st prize: Agree ka Ba? by LM Productions

2nd prize: Proud to be Pinoy by Motion Quest Productions

3rd prize: Byuti by Katsokoran Productions

Most people in the audience were ordinary workers and employees, students and educators, advocates of various causes, women from urban poor communities, and youth from migrant worker communities. Many of them expressed appreciation for such a rare event that upheld nationalist and independent filmmaking.
